Sumatra #2 Medium

"Dark like midnight on a new moon"

Fitting juxtaposition, as last night was the Harvest moon.

Despite the coffee being overbrewed (I was distracted with the writing of this very blog) it came out well rounded and is a cup that really holds up!

A smooth swirling circle covers the tongue, with a pleasant aftertaste ringing at the back.

But what exactly is "Sumatra"? An island in western Indonesia that lies in the waters of the Indian Ocean between India & Australia. Once known as "The Island of God".

I was saddened to learn that a massive tsunami in 2004 and subsuquent megathrust earthquake resulted in a high death toll (140,000 is a lot of people, especially on an island).

The October 1, 2009 tsunami in Samoa happened coincidentally on the same date as another earthquake hit Sumatra.

How does Sumatra maintain high coffee productivity despite repeated natural disasters fated to such a precarious locale?
