Tasting Wine for the First Time

Tasted Barolo, one of Italy's most esteemed traditional wines.

Made from the grape nebbiolo:
The fog that settles over Piemonte in late October during harvest.

I could taste the tradition! My palate expanded, awesome!

A later note: March 28, 2010
This morning I was reading Karen MacNeil's The Wine Bible, and came across the concept of "connectivity."  It reminded me of my "first taste of Barolo." I went back to my post, originally a status update on FB, and brought it here, to start this blog. MacNeil defines connectivity as the bond between a wine and the plot of land it was born in, the embodiment of a single piece of earth. I believe food has a power to tell our stories. The stories of our families, our lives. It is this connection that brings me to the stove, has me pouring through the recipe books, looking for the foods and the moments that make them.
